Wulugu Project

Founded 17 years ago, Wulugu Project builds village schools and vocational schools enabling girls to gain an education and skills for life, in rural Northern Ghana.
Together we are building Education

Founded 1996

  • Mission statement

Wulugu Project works closely with all sectors of local communities and local government in Northern Ghana to tackle poverty and its effects in the long term. It does this by improving education for the most disadvantaged, with the emphasis on girls. We ensure that there are enough places in primary schools and that families can afford to send their daughters to school by working closely with women's groups, often providing small income-generating loans.

We build primary schools and ensure that there are women teachers as role models, where possible providing safe accommodation. We also build and run vocational schools for girls and are delighted with the lengths families go to, to return their older girls to education, so giving them a real chance in life. We also have a pioneering programme to train local teachers to work in more remote villages to improve understanding of the ways in which HIV/AIDS can be avoided. Wulugu does not employ anyone in the United Kingdom and all the work in Ghana is carried out by locals.

  • Aims

    Wulugu Project aims to:

    • To increase the availability of education , especially for girls in rural Northern Ghana , so that they can work themselves out of poverty.
