Charity information

Extratime provides fun, inclusive & affordable out of school activities for children & young people with and without disabilities, complex health conditions & other additional needs in Brighton & Hove.

Due to their complex support needs many of the children & young people who come to our projects have no other access to play and leisure opportunities. They and their families are at severe risk of social isolation, which can impact on their social & emotional development and well-being

Founded 2002

  • Mission statement

Extratime is a charity founded by parents that provides inclusive out of school activities for children & young people with disabilities aged between 5 & 25 years at various venues in Brighton & Hove. High staff ratios enable us to include all children & young people however complex their needs.

We aim to provide a fun, safe environment which concentrates on what CAN be done - not what can't. Children & young people learn about living in an inclusive society where everyone is valued & treated equally. We give parents/carers of children with disabilities the chance to take up training, return to or stay in work, spend valuable time with non disabled siblings or just have a breather from their caring responsibilities.

We charge the same fees as mainstream after school clubs but we will never be self financing as we have lots of children & young people who require 1:1 support as opposed to a mainstream club that would have one member of staff for every eight children. Our holiday activities for young people operate from mainstream youth centres giving the young people the chance to try rock climbing, archery & DJing as well as trips out to the cinema, bowling & swimming.

We also invest in training for all our staff & are keen to work with other local providers so that more children with disabilities can be included in community based childcare services. Extratime also provides training & consultancy to other providers & will soon be providing services in West Sussex.
