British Skin Foundation
More than eight million people suffer from skin disease in the UK today.
There are thousands of different skin diseases, some of which can kill, whilst others severely affect the sufferers and their families. Over 200 new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the UK every day.
The British Skin Foundation (BSF) is the only registered charity dedicated to raising funds for research into all skin diseases. Our mission is to fund work that may lead to new treatments and eventually cures for the many skin diseases that devastate millions of lives.
Adults and children with skin disease endure both physical and psychological suffering on a daily basis. The pain and misery it brings to their lives is incalculable. Around 4,000 skin disease sufferers will also die as a result of their condition every year.
More research is desperately needed. But this research is very expensive. Raising this money is what the British Skin Foundation was set up for.
To date, we have funded research into a range of skin diseases, including skin cancer, eczema, acne, psoriasis and rosacea as well as less common but equally distressing conditions such as pemphigus vulgaris, venous leg ulcers and hidradenitis suppurativa.
The British Skin Foundation works closely with many of the country’s leading dermatology departments and patient support groups and we also enjoys a great relationship with the British Association of Dermatologists who generously support our running costs, allows every penny we raise through donations to fund quality research.
