  • Mission statement

Quaker Social Action is a local charity based in east London working to tackle poverty and social injustice.

Whether we are delivering our award-winning work on funeral poverty or delivering a bed to someone sleeping on a floor: our projects are all about working toward a just world where people put people first.

We are based in Bethnal Green and run the following projects:

Furniture - Homestore sells affordable furniture to east London families on low incomes.

Finances - the Made of Money project offers a creative and reflective approach to financial education for families. It includes a national training programme to share its approach across the UK. Moneytalk Bournemouth runs as a spin off project.

Funerals - Down to Earth offers immediate and practical support to those on a low income facing funeral poverty. This can include help with applications for state support and in depth advocacy work to help people plan an affordable and meaningful funeral.

Fulfilment This Way Up supports people on low incomes who feel stuck and are struggling to work towards their goals. This Way Up uses a mix of life coaching and mindfulness to boost people's confidence.

Fair Funerals campaign For the first time QSA are undertaking a campaign to address funeral poverty by putting the issue at the top of the agenda of the public, parliament and funeral industry.

QSA was awarded Guardian Charity of the Year in 2012.
