  • Mission statement

Epilepsy Society is the new working name for National Society for Epilepsy.
Established in 1892, our mission is to enhance the quality of life of people affected by epilepsy, by promoting research, education and public awareness and by delivering specialist medical care, information and support services. We are a World Health Organisation Centre of Excellence and have a long and successful history of turning research results into effective clinical practice.

Epilepsy affects around 590,000 people in the UK. Around 1,000 people die from sudden unexpected seizures every year, whilst 30% cannot gain control of their seizures. We seek to better understand the causes of epilepsy so that we can provide the most effective treatment.. Our aim is to provide individualised treatment for people with epilepsy, so that they can live a full life.
