Carers UK are the only UK membership charity for unpaid family carers: helping those looking after a loved one who is older, disabled or seriously ill. We give expert advice information and support; connect carers so no-one has to care alone; campaign together for lasting change and innovate to find new ways to support and reach carers.
Our vision is a society that respects, values and recognises carers.
However caring affects you and your family, we are here.
If it hasn’t already, one day caring will affect you, your life and your family.
If it seems unlikely, today 6,000 people became carers, and most of them were not prepared for what was to come.
For some, it’s sudden: someone you love becomes unwell or has an accident; your child is born with a disability. For others, caring creeps up unnoticed: your parents can’t manage on their own any longer; your partner’s health gets gradually worse. Caring for someone takes us beyond a usual family role and can impact on us, our lives, and our plans.
Without the right support in place the personal costs of caring can be high. Carers can feel utterly exhausted and isolated – struggling with family finances, relationships and their own health and wellbeing.
Carers UK ensures it doesn’t have to be like this.
Carers UK is here to give carers the information and support they need, when they need it most. We are here for the 6. 5 million people throughout the UK looking after a loved one – helping to support and sustain them in a role that’s not only precious to them and their families, but absolutely vital to our society as a whole.
We will continue to work hard to be there for carers when they don’t know where to turn, because no one should have to care alone.
Carers UK aims to:
- To ensure carers at every stage of the caring journey get the right help and support.
- To champion carers’ rights and lead the way in achieving lasting change on the issues that affect carers most.
- To help employers of all shapes and sizes to enable their workforce to balance work with caring.
- Innovate to find new ways to reach and support carers, and develop products and tools to help people better manage care.
