We are a charity dedicated to helping young people with moderate learning difficulties by teaching them the necessary skills to enable them to pursue as far as possible an independent lifestyle. We also work with them on numeracy and literacy projects. Cooking is taught in our large kitchen. Arts and crafts are a significant part of the agenda as is I. T. The Greenfingers Project involves all our students in the growing of fruit and vegetables on our own allotment both for our own use and for sale. We also run an active social programme which includes days out, holidays and social functions and buffets. The latter are prepared by the students themselves for invited guests.
The programme is geared to meet individual needs and the tutor/student ratio is often one to one. We concentrate on what each student is able to achieve and by doing so we can promote their sense of worth and their self esteem. Where practical they are found placements outside Stepping Stones, very often in catering situations or in nursey or old people care.
