Bradford Cyrenians has been operating in the district as a supported housing provider, when it first began delivering services in 1972. There was a growing concern about the lack of services for people sleeping rough in the city, particularly homeless men. After a number of initiatives set up in direct response to the needs of homeless clients, properties were acquired to set up a direct access hostel in 1979.
Since then, we have developed a number of move-on schemes with 2 partner Housing Associations. We can therefore offer vulnerable homeless men, aged 21 – 65 years temporary, mid-stay and long-term supported accommodation. In order to meet the support needs of our clients, we will work in conjunction with other partner agencies such as health, social services, probation and other voluntary and statutory agencies.
Bradford Cyrenians understands the effects of homelessness on individuals and families. We have developed our expertise and knowledge through our direct work with homeless men. We also understand that homelessness can impact on anyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or disability to name but a few. It is for this reason we actively promote the issues being faced by vulnerable communities to ensure that their needs are not overlooked and that they feel part of the solution and not the problem.
There are a number of issues impacting on the sector, both locally and nationally. These range from gaps in provision, emerging needs, funding of services and responding to excluded groups, particularly vulnerable people such as rough sleepers
Bradford Cyrenians is committed to developing existing and new services to ensure that the needs, choices and aspirations of our client group can be developed further. Our ethos remains as ever ‘to continue to develop and improve the quality of accommodation we offer whilst maintain our commitment to meet the diverse and complex support needs of service users’.
