  • Mission statement

    The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund strives to give voice and dignity to the African child. It fundamentally believes that you cannot separate the well-being of children and young people from the communities in which they live. The Fund has developed rapidly during the last decade, and is now recognised as one of the leading NGO’s working for children and youth in South Africa. It works in productive partnerships with national and provincial government to ensure that its programmes are integrated with policy aims. The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund also works closely with community partners to develop and empower them to be agents of change and so ensure a better, more stable future for children and young people.

    NMCF's four main programme areas are;
    Child Protection and Safey which focuses on the area of child abuse. It has supported the creation of protective environments such as after school clubs to prevent crime, and offered support to its victims.
    The Goelama Programme works with children who are vulnerable through HIV and Aids. The broader issue of poverty that adds to this vulnerability is addressed by encouraging communities to develop income generating initiatives to give financial stability.
    Youth for Change harnesses the energy and vision of young people to develop the confidence and skills for work.
    Sport for Good builds confidence and self-esteem in young people and encourages them to make the most of their abilities through sport
