The Mulberry Bush Organisation

The Mulberry Bush Organisation consists of a therapeutic school for the most vulnerable young children in the U. K. , a training department and an outreach arm MBOX helping children all over Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties. Founded in 1948, the School provides the highest quality specialist therapeutic care, treatment and education to some of the most severely troubled and vulnerable children aged five to twelve. As a result of severe deprivation - physical, emotional or sexual abuse during their formative years the children grow up deeply mistrustful of adults. They display chaotic, aggressive and violent behaviour, which makes them unmanageable in their home and mainstreamschool settings.

For this reason local authorities across the UK send children to the school, where we offer a three-year programme that aims to help them to re-integrate into home, community and school life. Local authorities pay the fees, which cover the basic cost of treatment, care and education. However, this does not allow for any capital development, extension of therapeutic care, or any of the extra-curricular activities which other children take for granted.

  • Mission statement

    Transforming Troubled Lives Together –
Providing excellent therapeutic interventions to enable troubled children and their families to reach their full potential by improving relationships and educational achievement.
Our primary task is to help primary aged children who have been unable to live in a family or learn in school, who have deep and complex emotional troubles and have developed antisocial ways of being, to discover helpful ways of living with themselves and others and to see themselves as learners and achievers.

  • Aims

The Mulberry Bush Organisation aims to:

    • We aim for the children to be able to: Live in a family setting and go on to mainstream or other appropriate school.
    • We aim for the children to make outstanding progress in their ability to: Use and apply learnt skill and knowledge and to be a successful learner.
    • We aim for the children to make outstanding progress in their ability to: Make a contribution and become involved in the immediate and wider community and to improve their self awareness and value achievement.
    • We aim for the children to make outstanding progress in their ability to: Involve themselves appropriately in their care and the care of the environment, function appropriately in a group and to reflect on and communicate feelings rather than act them out.
