RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE DOESN'T HAPPEN IN LEAFY SURREY?

2,500 Helpline calls a year. 2,500 hours of individual counselling a year. 70 volunteers. It is not a small problem!!

RASASC supports survivors of rape and sexual abuse, men and women throughout Surrey and the surrounding counties. Trained volunteers offer a confidential listening service and face to face counselling, plus self help groups and support to families/partners who are supporting a survivor.

Rape and sexual abuse can impact on the whole family. RASASC is developing alliances with relevant local agencies, police, doctors, hospitals, schools, colleges to raise awareness of rape and sexual abuse.

RASASC comprises of 70 volunteers and 3 part time staff. 2400 calls were received last year and 1600-2000 hours of individual counselling sessions were taken. Demand is increasing for RASASC's services. January 2011, RASASC employed an ISVA, Independent Sexual Violence Advisor. March 2011, Surrey SARC, Sexual Assault Referral Centre opened.

RASASC is funded by an assortment of funds, government, trusts, foundations, private individuals, staff and volunteer efforts. Annual running costs are over £100,000pa.
