The Nehemiah Project
The Nehemiah Project
Enabling men to break out of the cycle of addiction, homelessness and often prison. We work with arguably some of the most marginalised and excluded individuals in society, and believe this group of men is vastly misunderstood, with poverty and isolation undermining their efforts to tackle their addiction, which is well-nigh impossible to do on one’s own. Nehemiah is a holistic environment where men can review their past lives and set goals for a life free of addiction, and marginalisation.
The Nehemiah Project works with men with a history of addiction, which mostly includes homelessness and/or prison. We offer these men the support they need to change their lives and achieve their potential.
Our clients invariably report multiple hardships, care, abuse, broken or violent families, and interrupted education. They are vulnerable men who have been marginalised as the result of addiction which has severely affected them, their families and the wider community.
We run a residential, CBT-based programme that enables our Residents to break the cycle of addiction and consider the alternatives to homelessness and/or crime, and throughout the programme we provide the professional and life changing-support necessary to secure a new future. This equips our Residents to change their lives and overcome challenges to that change. All men agree to remain abstinent, and the most important factor in their success is their own will to change - we can only assist them in the process of change, and they need the space and support of our Housing Team to complete the challenging programme.
One a man has graduated, he moves to our move-on house, where he is still supported in his search for meaningful activity - employment, education, training or volunteering. We have a programme to mend relationships with families as their support and encouragement is key to a man maintaining his recovery. The final goal is independent living, strengthened by informed decisions.
The Nehemiah Project aims to:
- We aim to provide professional and life-changing support to vulnerable men who very often find little or no support in their efforts to escape their addiction and be in control of their lives.
