  • Mission statement

Founded in 1918, Gingerbread is the only national charity working with single parent families. There are nearly two million single parents in Britain - that's one in four families with children. Financial insecurity, stigma and social isolation are issues faced by single parents every day.

With 100 years' experience, Gingerbread is the first port of call when times are tough for hundreds of thousands of single parent families each year. We offer expert advice and training, a peer support network and we work with single parents to get their voices hear.

We are the only national organisation that exists solely to improve the lives of single parent families - our unqiue services are shaped by and for single parents. Our mission is to champion and enable single parent families to live secure, happy and fulfilling lives, with a vision of a world where diverse families can thrive.

    To outline our impact:

    > More than 800,000 access our website each year – and that’s more than doubled in the past five years

    > Each year, we help more than 9,000 parents address complex financial, emotional, and practical needs through our helpline, averaging 17 minutes per call

    > Gingerbread supports around 1,000 single parents each year through our through our training programmes

    > We have up to 100 friendship groups, bringing single parents together. We also have our online membership of over 12,000 single parents, who receive support in our online forum and exclusive membership benefits.
