Charity information

Braintree District Mencap Society was formed over 50 years ago and offers support and a range of activities to members who have a Learning Disability and their families. We offer advice and support through our help line and our magazine "Link". We also represent our members at various meetings making sure their opinions are heard. We also offer welfare assistance and hold regular meetings with organisations so issues affecting our members can be voiced. We run a minibus to convey our members to activities and own our premises.
As an organisation we also offer clubs for our adult members which include Gateway Club, Drama Group and an art group. For our younger members we run a Children's Respite Leisure Scheme. All these groups especially the Children's scheme cost a great deal of money to run. The Play and Respite Scheme for Children is run by Part time members of staff and is Ofsted Registered.
