Temper (Domestic Violence) Ltd
For the sake of their children and the well-being of our society abusers urgently need help to change their violent aggressive abuse behaviour. Both men and women are abusers. It follows that both men and women need help to change their behaviour. Children are frequently very badly damaged by what they witness, what they experience, and from the fall-out when relationships separate..
Our mission is the improvement of the behaviour of men and women who are violent and or abusive to a wife or husband and partner or former partner. We view this a vitally important work for the wellbeing and welfare of childnre who represeant by far the biggest group of victims of inter-familial abuse. Children are often very badly traumatised by the consequences of witnessing the behaviour, of becoming involved, directly and indirectly and by the fall-out when a parent gets sent to prison or gets separated from them. Very sadly children are also quite frequently placed in the position of being pawns in disputes between parents.
Radical feminism holds men accountable for all domestic abuse and "block" very much needed therapeutic work. The Duluth abuser programme has been clearly demonstrated to fail in America. Nevertheless radical feminism seeks to impose it in Britain, wastefully organising a telephone helpline at very nearly £1,000 per day to direct 2 of 4 abusers to the only programmes recognised by Cafcass , only for men, of course. RESPECT's flagship programme, DVIP in London, completed work with just 33 men of 230 that approached them in a typical year - the budget £219k.
Since radical feminists and RESPECT consider that all abuse is about "patriarchy" it follows that only men in heterosexual relationships can be "treated". The fact that 62% of child abuse is perpetrated by women is essentially dismissed. The need to establish women as the main victim takes precedence over everything. Deaths - about 80 children per year 0-16, women about 100 per year 18 - 80, men about 30 per year.
The radical feminist plan secures vast amounts of money for Women's Aid and every agency has a domestic violence contingent focussed on female victims. And the policy brings chaos to British families with the intention of there being nowhere for men to go to successfully address their behaviour. The Duluth Abuser programme has been deliberately constructed to be the "wrong work", which men cannot complete and it is aimed at the wrong group of men. It ignores violent, aggressive and abusive women. Our work provides one sensible antidote, and there need to be many. We work with those that need it. We urgently need to develop up to 16 centres in the UK, at about £75k per centre per year to bring sensible work to both men and women in this feminist dominated, deliberately stagnated agenda.
In 36 hour long therapeutic groups we deliver counselling and other help to mainly men (and about 10 -15% women) who are violent, aggressive abusive with their partner or former partner. It is very, very rare work in Britain and we are one of very, very few of the projects which successfully manages to engage significantly with men. 90% plus of those that start our work complete it.
The work is currently undertaken in an arc from North London though Northampton to Birmingham and we are looking to extend this to Manchester as soon as we have sufficient income.
Currently a central project needs about £150K per year to run and develop the other city centres, each of which would need about £75k per year. At this development stage a project may be named according to the wishes of a major supporter, as is The Eddie Thomas project for the East Midlands, currently running out of Northampton. If you google "Partner Abuse" you can read of the very substantial criticism of the Duluth programme which is emerging in America. Meanwhile in Britain researchers are trying to prove with £1. 2m that RESPECT's "Duluth version" "does the business". More money wasted! Duluth has simply failed in America for 30 years. Alternatives are urgently needed. We believe we have the best model on which to build.
