Arts Together is an innovative, award winning charity working since 2000 to improve the quality of life of vulnerable older people in Wiltshire, especially those who have become physically or socially isolated. Arts Together works to help older people develop an increased capacity to live an enriched life, by preventing loss of independence, reducing isolation, building self confidence and self esteem, improving quality of life and increasing choice. In the long term this also reduces the deterioration of mental and physical health.
We currently run three groups for members aged between 65 and 100 years, which meet in Devizes, Pewsey and Marlborough. Group members take part in quality creative arts projects, share experiences, make new friends and have a lot of fun. We provide a wide variety of challenging and rewarding participatory arts activities, facilitated by professional artists and supported by trained volunteers and carers.
Participants have published a book of their poems, made a CD of their own songs and a video of their own play. They take part in activities such as; Native American drumming, mosaics, creative writing, poetry, ceramics, painting, circus skills and Indian hand dancing – anything challenging and creative. To quote from a recent evaluation a group member said:
'It gives me an awful lot of pleasure. Now I have so many friends'
£30,000 a year ensures that we can continue to provide this essential service.
