Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust

The Trust works to create and improve greenspaces, such as community parks, gardens, woodlands, cycleways and to get people actively involved in them, to benefit health and well being.

  • Mission statement

    The Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust works to make a positive difference in the quality of life for Lothian communities by improving their local environment. We believe that access to quality local greenspaces can have a positive impact on the health and well-being of individuals, particularly in disadvantaged areas.

    We work with communities, landowners, local authorities and other organisations, within urban and rural areas of Edinburgh and the Lothians, to create sustainable, well-managed and accessible greenspaces. We endeavour to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy their natural environment and work for the benefit of people, wildlife, landscape and heritage.

  • Aims

    Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust aims to:

    • Encourage active participation in environmental management through education and volunteering.
    • Improve access to quality greenspaces and improve routes for walking and cycling.
    • Promote greenspaces as attractive and welcoming places for all kinds of activities including recreation, business, community growing, education volunteering and active living.
    • Improve physical and mental health and wellbeing through positive access to quality greenspaces & empower communities through involvement in, and ownership of, their local greenspaces.
    • Improve biodiversity & green infrastructure of Edinburgh and the Lothians and help address climate change by supporting woodland management, woodland creation and positive land management practices
