We believe that universal access to clean, affordable energy is the key to a brighter future for the planet.
We bring together the best of charity and business to tackle two of the world's biggest problems - climate change and poverty.
In Africa, nearly 600 million people do not have access to electricity. Many rely on toxic and dangerous alternatives such as kerosene for lighting. A small solar light saves a family money, protects the environment and enables children to study after dark.
In 2008 SolarAid started a social enterprise called SunnyMoney. SunnyMoney uses an innovative distribution model to sell solar lights in off-grid communities. By working with head teachers and local entrepreneurs, we are empowering local communities and creating a sustainable energy legacy. SunnyMoney are one of the largest sellers of solar lights in Africa, reaching over 10 million people to-date.
Our goal is to help provide clean affordable energy to everyone in Africa and give people the means to lift themselves out of poverty.
SolarAid aims to:
- Eradicate the kerosene lamp from Africa. We call it our BHAG (or Big Hairy Audacious Goal).
