Charity information

Elenydd Wilderness Hostels Trust

Our charity was established in April 2006 with the aim of saving the 3 hostels, in the Elenydd area of the Cambrian Mountains, from closure following their sale by the Youth Hostels Association. Over the years these hostels have provided simple self catering accomodation and shelter in beautiful remote upland countryside which can only be explored on foot, on horseback or by cycle.
As of Dec. 2007 we have raised sufficient funds from supporters to purchase one hostel and secured a 5yr lease on a second hostel. The third hostel has been sold for private use. We are now seeking funding to upgrade the hostels in order to attract more discerning visitors and improve the viability of our business.
Trustees, management committee and wardens are all volunteers. We have no payed staff. We exist to encourage people, particularly the young to continue visiting this part of Wales, to explore the wonderful scenery in an environmentally friendly way, to visit the nearby towns and villages and contribute to the economic and social activity of the local communities.
