The Story Museum
The Story Museum
'Stories are the most important thing in the world. Without stories we wouldn't be human beings at all. ' Philip Pullman, Patron
We believe that story is especially important for young humans. Sharing stories develops language and understanding, imagination and empathy. There is mounting evidence that enjoying a rich variety of stories as they grow helps children to fulfil their potential and can even break cycles of deprivation. The Story Museum works to highlight the importance of story and to share 1001 enjoyable ways of learning through stories in many forms.
Since 2005 we have worked with over 50,000 children, teachers and parents. We run outreach programmes that take performances, exhibitions and activities to schools and communities, particularly the most disadvantaged. The next chapter of our own story is to create a world centre of story and storytelling in the heart of Oxford. We have the perfect, if dilapidated, building thanks to a very generous £2. 5million donation and now need to raise the money to transform it into a magical Story Museum, to open in 2014, the year in which Oxford aims to be UNESCO World Capital of The Book. Please visit our website to discover some stories for yourself and find out more about what we do. We need £100,000 a year to run our programme and will need to raise £5 million to open the museum. Share your story with us and if you choose to give to us, thank you. Every donation counts.
