  • Mission statement

    Afasic is the UK charity that represents, helps and supports children and young people affected by the hidden disability of speech, language and communication impairments and their families. Afasic is a membership organisation that was established in 1968.

    Afasic operates a unique helpline service; provides information, training and support for parents; runs training for professionals; and organises activities and projects for the children and young people affected by this disability. Afasic works to empower parents to support their child, works with those affected to improve their communication and life skills; and provides training for professionals to increase their skills and knowldge so that they can better support these children and young people.

  • Aims

    Afasic aims to:

    • To raise awareness of speech, language and communication needs and how they impact on the lives of the children and young people affected and their families.
    • To empower parents and carers to advocate for their child, and help enable them to access appropriate services and support to effectively meet their child’s needs.
    • To support and develop the communication, social and life skills of children and young peopleaffected by this disability; enabling them to participate in society and reach their full potential.
