Ipswich and Suffolk Council for Racial Equality

Our mission is to work towards the elimination of racial discrimination and to promote equality of opportunity and good relations between people of different racial groups.
ISCRE believes that for too long race equality has been seen as an issue of colour. ISCRE works with all communities - black and white, young and old, disabled or able bodied. We believe in building sustainable communities and creating opportunities for all. An example of this is our translation and interpreting project where our interpreters are all locally trained and from our communities. However race equality in Suffolk is important in the context of negative headlines about migrant workers, an area of significant growth for Suffolk, and with a long history of Gypsy and Traveller communities. We are seeing steady rises in race hate crimes and incidents in schools.
Since the inception of the Equality and Human Rights Commission ISCRE believes strongly that it is well placed to lead on the access to justice agenda as no other such body exists in Suffolk.
