There are 100,000 strokes in the UK each year with 1 in 4 happening to somebody of working age or younger. Different Strokes aims to promote independent stroke recovery and help younger survivors reclaim their lives. We provide an information line, information packs and a network of exercise and support groups across the UK.
Different Strokes is largely run by younger stroke survivors for younger stroke survivors. We recognise that the Different Strokes community are the experts in stroke recovery and rehabilitation with first-hand knowledge of the issues and challenges facing families after stroke.
We champion peer support for younger stroke survivors as a means to active recovery.
We listen, we collaborate, we have integrity and we are agile.
We provide an important voice for younger stroke survivors to Government, service providers and funders, fighting for better standards and improved understanding. The World Health Organisation commended the Different Strokes’ approach using our provision as a model for similar provision throughout Europe.
