  • Mission statement

BID believes that asylum-seekers and migrants in the UK have a right to liberty and should be protected from arbitrary and prolonged detention by effective and accessible legal safeguards.

BID provides free legal advice and information to immigration detainees to help them exercise their right to liberty and make their own bail applications in court. It also prepares and presents free applications for release on bail or temporary admission for the most vulnerable detainees, such as survivors of torture or children in families. It carries out research and uses evidence gathered to campaign to end arbitrary detention.
