Watts Gallery Trust cares for the extraordinary artists' village - the Gallery and collection, Chapel and the Studio House of the great Victorian artist GF Watts in Compton, Surrey.
GF Watts OM RA (1817-1904) was one of Britain's most eminent 19th-century artists. The mission of Watts Gallery Trust is to promote the understanding and appreciation of G F Watts and Mary Watts. To protect Watts Gallery - Artists' Village comprising 4 building buildings: Watts Gallery (Grade-II* listed), Old Pottery (Grade-II listed), the Watts Cemetery Chapel (Grade-I listed) and Limnerslease, the house and studio of GF and Mary Watts (Grade-II listed) and its collection for present and future generations. Watts Gallery Trust is founded on the principles of Art for All and provides a unique insight into 19th-century Britain through the lens of Watts.
The Trust aims to develop the Artists' Vilalge as a centre for the exploration of Victorian arts, social history and craft to promote the Village as a centre of heritage interest; to increase income for the Trust to secure its long term future and to create an organisation which can deliver its mission and reach new audiences.
Watts Gallery Trust aims to:
- To preserve for the benefit of the public Watts Gallery - Artists' Villaqe and its grounds as a building of historic, architectural or constructional interest.
- To advance the education of the public in the subject of art', the intention of the Art For All Learning Programme, a far-reaching outreach programme for all ages, social and educational backgrounds.
- To promote art for the benefit of the public by the establishment and maintenance of Watts Gallery - Artists' Village - an objective of the charity as described in its memorandum and articles in 1905
