CLEAR International

CLEAR International is a project of the Lawyers' Christian Fellowship, committed to supporting access to justice projects in East Africa.

Founded 1999

  • Mission statement

CLEAR is a Christian Legal Aid project serving the people of any faith or none across East Africa. Our aim, in partnership with indigenous organisations of lawyers, is to educate the poorest communities, be they in the prisons, slums or rural communities as to their basic human rights and to offer legal aid and advice where appropriate. In so doing, we hope to develop access to the rule of law for the majority of peoples who have hitherto been excluded from justice.

What sets us apart is that we do not just teach human rights and challenge unjust laws. We assist the poorest to access justice through local pro bono lawyers' organisations, releasing the innocent who may have been on remand awaiting trial fpr 5 years or more, helping deserted mothers obtain maintenance for their children and representing street children in the courts.
