Somerset Racial Equality Council Ltd

Somerset Racial Equality Council (SREC) is an independent voluntary sector organisation. It works mainly in three activity areas: Casework in Racial Harassment and Discrimination, Policy Development and Training and Public Education and Community Development. It seeks to:

1. Eliminate racial discrimination.
2. Promote equality of opportunity.
3. Promote good race relations between people of different racial groups.

SREC was formed in 1995 as a Network. It became a Council in 1999. SREC covers the counties of Somerset and North Somerset. Working in partnership with individuals and organisations for a fair and just society which values diversity and gives everyone an equal chance to work, learn and live free from discrimination, prejudice and racism. We have developed a number of projects within SREC to enable this work including:
Somerset Black Development Agency (SBDA) is an organisation for developing the black voluntary sector infrastructure for the county.
The Racial Inclusion Project works with Children aged 5 - 13years and their families who are experiencing racial harassment either in school or in the community.
