Jeremiah's Journey

Jeremiah’s Journey offers support to children and young people who have experienced or are anticipating the death of someone special.
Last year we helped over 330 children and their families.

Founded 1996

  • Mission statement

We answer every call from the local community & offer support in a variety of ways, one of which is our short term therapeutic group programmes for bereaved children and their parents /carers. Many of the children say that they feel alone in their grief. Attending a group means that they meet other children who have been through something similar and understand the impact bereavement can have. The sessions use creative activities to enable the children to: express their feelings of grief; share their memories and explore ways of coping. They provide a safe space for children to talk and share how they are feeling using coloured sand to make a feelings sculpture; a powerful snapshot of the intense feelings associated with grief. Each child has a memory box which they decorate to make sparkly on the outside & holds precious memories inside. We share ideas about ways of helping ourselves feel better when we are sad, angry or worried. The aim is that children come away with things that will be helpful now & in the future.

We run individual sessions for the child or the whole family, our aim is to listen & meet their needs.

We have a project called Stepping Stones for children who have a parent with a terminal illness; it allows the children to meet others who have a shared understanding of this difficult & uncertain time.

Finally we run events for our families so that they can have fun with the hope that the friendships will continue long after their time with us.
