Our Community Centre provides services for the Irish and local community in Leicester. There are a range of quality initiatives and activities running throughout the week for groups.
The centre has an open door policy accessing funds from Trusts and Charities to run innovative programmes that meet the needs of the Irish community, the vulnerable disabled elderly and disadvantaged young people. These include health and well-being projects, educational and recreational projects, outreach and advice on a range of issues, e. G. Debt management, benefit entitlement. The Emerald centre consists of a large community hall where groups can meet and socialise, a computer suite, a community garden, 4 changing rooms for sports and 2 large playing fields. Activities include 3 Luncheon Clubs, fitness sessions, IT for elders, mums and toddlers, vocational training courses for unemployed, as well a range of sporting courses and activities throughout the year, music and dance workshops for vulnerable groups, volunteering programme, cultural programmes including Irish speaking/dance classes, Hindu celebrations and cultural programmes, Befriending service where we organise a service that visits vulnerable elderly people who are unable to leave their homes, disability fun days, one off events for elders, disabled groups and family fun days.
The Emerald Centre aims to:
- To continue facilities that meet the needs of those individuals in the area, who have little or no access to recreational facilities e.g. Irish Elders,Travellers, disadvantage young people, parents.
