Home training for people with disabilities, through the provision of IT equipment, software and training. Help us extend our support with this years Christmas Challenge and build a "Volunteer Hub".
Computer technology is arguably the most important universal development that has changed the lives of people with disabilities, ever! Since the first primitive screen readers and voice activation programmes of the 60’s and early 70’s to the sophisticated programmes readily available today, people with disabilities have rightly established themselves as equals within the work place and more than capable of running their own lives. Unfortunately, even though this technology is now at readily available it is extremely expensive and certainly beyond the means of anyone on a low income.
UCanDoIT has been supporting people with disabilities with the provision of home one-to-one computer training since 1998. As the first organisation to recognise the need for people with disabilities to have home access to a computer, we have achieved so much. To date over 4,000+ people across the UK, who collectively have over 80 different forms of disability, speak 12 different languages and have an age range of 8 - 108 have received our services and improved their life options. We now want to extend that support even further, by providing additional help for the more isolated of our learners, those with no immediate family or friends or are house bound and for whom the internet really could make a difference.
UCanDoIT aims to:
- greater independence
- combat isolation, though improved communications
- improved employability skills
- Improved life options
- increased mental welfare
