Charity information

Brake is a national charity working to prevent deaths and injuries on our roads and care for people bereaved through road crashes. We work to educate road users by working with schools, communities and professionals, and we campaign for safer roads for everyone. Our care services provide vital emotional support and practical information to thousands of families each year who have been devastated by a sudden and traumatic bereavement.

Brake produces educational road safety literature, runs grassroots community education programmes and coordinates national events including the UK's annual Road Safety Week. Its Fleet Safety Forum division provides up-to-date fleet safety resources to fleet managers and helps disseminate best practice in road risk management. BrakeCare, Brake’s support division, provides support services for people bereaved or affected by serious injury in a road crash, and their families, including a national helpline, literature distributed across the UK through police officers and a fledgling face-to-face support service.
