Essex Boys and Girls Clubs

Working to help young people realise their potential in Essex and East London.

Founded 1939

  • Mission statement

Essex Boys and Girls Clubs (formerly Essex Association of Boys’ Clubs) has been working successfully with young people in Essex and East London since 1939.

We support our 120+ affiliated youth and sports clubs by offering advice and training for club leaders and volunteer staff, and enhance their work by providing and organising activities and events for their 10,000+ young people.

The clubs we support provide fantastic (and mainly generously volunteered) safe environments for young people to gather, away from threats of drugs, alcohol & crime. We believe in the positive impact that adventurous activities, sports and arts can have on young people, so we take equipment and professional coaches to clubs, arrange inter- and outer- club competitions and organise adventure courses.

Our activities are designed to build life skills and develop character in preparation for adulthood, citizenship and employment. Self-esteem, teamwork, problem-solving, courage, self-awareness and empathy are but a few of the positive effects of our range of activities on the young people we work with.
