Bungay Arts & Theatre Society - The Fisher Theatre Project

Over 12years a group of 5 people has raised more than £1m to provide Bungay - a rural community on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, designated as facing multiple disadvantage and deprivation - with a fully inclusive high quality Arts Centre - The Fisher Theatre.
The Centre - which opened at last in Oct 2006 and is considered to be the fourth oldest working theatre in England - has a weekly programme of events (cinema, live drama, music, art exhibitions, dance, creative workshops) for all ages and tastes at low price. It also provides meeting space for local groups, schools, public and private sector businesses and houses a youth theatre group with over 100 members. It has recently won three awards: ‘Best Attraction’, ‘Best New Innovation’, and The Bungay Society (with the Beccles & Bungay Journal) has voted us ‘the town project which has most improved the town through excellence in design, concept and vision’. In only one year it has become a focal point for the town and surrounding area.
