Richmond upon Thames Crossroads Care

Mission statement " To promote, offer, support and deliver high quality respite services for Carers and people with care needs” Richmond Crossroads is a local charity set up in 1987 and is affiliated to the Crossroads Assocaition. The purpose of Richmond Crossroads is to provide practical and emotional support to Carers who are caring for children, adults or older people who have a physical/sensory disability, mental health problems for who are chronically or terminally ill. Richmond Crossroads Care is individually tailored and flexible to met the needs of each family rather than carers having to fit their needs around the availability of the service. The caring role is often never ending and stressful, Richmond Crossroads provides home based respite breaks for carers giving the carer time for themselves, even if this means taking a nap or going out for a couple of hours. We have launched an Older Carers Appeal because we have a number of vulnerable carers over the age of 80 caring for another person we also run an end of life home based Macmillan/Crossroads palliative care service caring for people who want to remain at home. Our community projects include a weekly Cafe for people affected by dementia who would otherwise find it difficult to access main stream cafes, we also run 2 Saturday Clubs for Children with Special Needs and these children are mostly cannot attend local clubs because of their disability and behaviour.
Over the past year (2006-2007) the scheme has provided 24,813 care hours to 353 carers living within the borough of Richmond.
