Leeds Asylum Seekers Support Network

Leeds Asylum Seekers' Support Network is a small local charity aiming to make a positive contribution to the lives of refugees and asylum seekers in Leeds. We help reduce isolation, provide support and encourage self-help. Our 150 volunteers offer one-to-one support to refugees, asylum seekers and those people whose asylum application has failed.
• Short Stop - our emergency accommodation where volunteer hosts open up their homes to asylum seekers who have nowhere else to stay.
• Befriending where volunteers provide support with accessing services and familiarisation with the locality and culture.
• English at Home for asylum seekers and refugees unable to get to mainstream English classes because of health problems and caring for dependents.
• Refugee Community support where we undertake capacity building with newly emerging refugee community organisations.
• A Hardship Fund where we raise £30,000 each year from individual donations to distribute directly to destitute asylum seekers.
• LASSN also raises awareness on asylum issues by our volunteer training programme, giving talks, contributing to training on asylum issues, by producing a quarterly newsletter, and by taking a lead role in Leeds on tackling destitution.
