Rice Lane Community Association

Rice Lane Community Association has just celebrated it's Pearl Jubilee. For the past thirty years RLCA has provided services to meet the needs and aspirations of all sections of the local community from the community centre and from the city farm, both of which are located in the Walton area of Liverpool.

The community centre is itself an historic building, the former Victorian police station and gaol. The community centre is open to the public Monday to Friday, as despite requiring upgrading is used by approximately 500 people in an average week.

RLCA deliver services to young people via a dedicated youth work team based at the farm site who are currently undertaking ground breaking inter racial work on a cross city basis, using sport and performance art as a tool of engagement.

The city farm occupies a former graveyard, the final resting place of amongst others Robert Tressel, author of The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist. The site is complete with chapel and 24 acres of organic land. On this site RLCA have farmed a range of award winning rare breeds and have undertaken extensive conservation and market gardening work.
