Torquay Museum is Devon's oldest Museum and its collections rank among the finest in the South West. The collections comprise nearly half a million items of local, regional and international significance covering a broad subject range of natural sciences, archaeology, ethnography, social history and local history. Large collections of related archives are held, the most important being papers on prehistoric archaeology and pictoral records of South Devon. The ethnography collection houses material from Asia, Oceania and Africas and includes rare and significant items.
Torquay Museum aims to safeguard, collect and preserve these objects and to present them in an accessible form - for inspiration, enjoyment and learning - for everyone. The Museum seeks to establish itself as an education resource and expand the audience for Museum attendance by finding new pathways to audience engagement with the Museum's collections.
