Woodland Trust

Our vision is to see a country rich in native woods and trees enjoyed and valued by everyone.

Founded 1972

  • Mission statement

The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading conservation charity dedicated to providing a UK rich in native woods and trees.

Over the last 30 years we have planted over 12 million native trees helping to create new native woodland and acquired over 1100 woods throughout the UK. We are committed to protecting and restoring ancient woodland and creating new woodland, both for the benefit of people and wildlife.

Our vision for the future is even bigger! We believe there should be twice as many trees as we have now, for wildlife, people and to improve the environment. So, over the next 50 years, we aim to double native tree cover throughout the whole of the UK, and to achieve this we will be creating more native woods and places rich in trees, whilst protecting existing native woods, trees and wildlife habitats.

With the help and encouragement of others, and working closely with communities and other organisations, we hope to inspire everyone to enjoy and value woods and trees, and recognise that they are an essential part of a healthy environment for many years to come.

  • Aims

    Woodland Trust aims to:

    • Work with others to plant more native trees: helping and inspiring millions of people, especially children, to plant millions of trees across the UK, and planting the forests of the future
    • Inspire everyone to enjoy and value woods and trees: we offer activities, games and free days out for children and provide information, pictures, interactive maps and much more for each of our woods
    • Protect native woods, trees and their wildlife for the future: we campaign to protect woods and trees under threat, help save hundreds of woods through lobbying and fight to restore ancient woodland
