Intercontinental Church Society

ICS is an international Anglican mission agency which makes known the Christ of the Scriptures to people of any nationality who speak English. Some 1. 5 billion people in the world now speak English as a first, second or foreign language.

Founded in 1823, ICS now supports the ministry of around sixty-five English-speaking, international congregations in several continents. We do this through, for example, recruiting their ministers (as an evangelical patronage society), owning church buildings and funding mission initiatives. We also help plant new international churches in cooperation with Anglican dioceses, providing the minister and the start-up funding. We also conduct outreach to holidaymakers in over twenty European and Mediterranean resorts, including owning and maintaining the historic ‘English Churches’ in the Swiss resorts of Zermatt and Wengen. We publish the Directory of English-speaking Churches Abroad to those going abroad find places to worship.

Our principal field of work is mainland Europe, where there are immense spiritual needs, and where English-language mission and ministry can and does play a significant part in the mission of the church. A gift or legacy to ICS will help us proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to future generations of English-speakers who find themselves away from home in countries where English is not the first language.

ICS was formerly known as Colonial and Continental Church Society, Commonwealth and Continental Church Society, and Intercon.
