Cardiff YMCA Housing Association

Often people think of the YMCA as a provider of youth work and leisure activities. However, this YMCA - Cardiff YMCA Housing Association - is a YMCA with a difference! We have four city centre housing projects offering flexible support services. These include a range of temporary accommodation options for vulnerable men and women of all ages and backgrounds who are in housing need. We also operate a number of schemes which lead to the empowerment of individuals, and we have our social enterprise type recycling centre and shop offering volunteering opportunities to the homeless and people in our local community.

  • Mission statement

The Cardiff YMCA Housing Association provides temporary accommodation for homeless people of both sexes, all ages and various backgrounds. We provide support to all residents in their search for permanent accommodation as well as support for a range of other identified needs. We also manage smaller housing projects, a resettlement project, a recycling project and shop, and Design for Life, which helps residents move away from benefit dependency, into gainful employment or training/education.

We provide an emergency overnight facility for urgent need and a range of services to provide a clean, safe and secure living environment. We offer advice and support to residents so that they may move on to permanent or more appropriate housing. We have links with specialist outside agencies to ensure a comprehensive information base, with processes in place to assess, monitor and review support and move-on plans. We respond flexibly to changing priorities by developing innovative schemes to respond to emerging need by keeping up to date with strategic planning in the locality, representing the Association at relevant groups and forums; develop in-house schemes to respond to the need of the current client groups and work with local initiatiatives.
