Charity information

Hampstead School of Art

A Community Art Education Charity dedicated to enriching our community and sharing the knowledge of artists from Constable to Freud.

Founded 1963

  • Mission statement

The Hampstead Artist’s Council (HAC) was launched in 1946 and included a smart art school. 70 years and several manifestations on, Hampstead School of Art has moved into its new purpose-built building. We will strive to continue serving the local community and are proud to be the oldest, non- profit, contemporary art-making and learning centre in north London.

Purpose built for studio-based learning, designed by architects Allies and Morrison and built by Barratt London, HSoA is the creative heart of Hampstead’s new Kidderpore Green development.

  • Aims

Hampstead School of Art aims to:

    • Actively pursue outreach to the community in pursuit of art education and excellence. Work with learned disability artists in promoting well-being and confidence
    • Promote education through affordable courses and offer bursaries to those with restricted incomes
    • Creating a Community in Penrose Gardens which encourages practising artists to come together to find their artistic voice and to share ideas to broaden the student experience.
