Leeds Mencap aims to improve the lives and opportunities of children and adults with a learning disability, along with their families and carers throughout the Leeds region.

Mission statement
Leeds Mencap is a grass roots organisation created by people with learning disabilities, for people with learning disabilities. We provide a range of life changing services and activities to individuals of all ages with a learning disability. These services include Hawthorn Family Support Centre for 0 – 3 year olds, parent support projects, youth clubs, adult social groups, play schemes, a siblings group, a 3-5 Stay & Play, A Dad’s social group, Me2 an inclusive dance group and the Rookery, a residential home. Leeds Mencap has a holistic approach to support and aims to be a resource for the whole family, long-term and we do this for over 300 people on a weekly basis.

Aims
Leeds Mencap aims to:
- To raise public awareness of the issues regarding learning disabilities
- To provide respite for parents,carers and dependants
- To aid people with a Iearning disability in particular by the provision of help and support for them and for their families/carers, and dependants.
- To provide or assist in the provision of facilities for learning and leisure for persons with learning disabilities to improve their quality of life.
