The Salters' Institute

The Salters' Institute focuses on its Salters' Festivals of Chemistry - 1 day chemistry events for 11-13 year olds at universities around the UK and Ireland - around 50 Festivals are held annually. Teams of 4 students explore the excitement of hands on practical chemistry in university labs whilst competing with other school teams to solve a chemical who dunnit as well as watching the most amazing chemical magic shows.

    The Salters' Institute aims to promote the appreciation of chemistry and related sciences among the young, and to encourage careers in the teaching of chemistry and in the UK chemical and allied industries.

    The Institute gives school students from all backgrounds the opportunity to take part in hands-on chemistry events at Universities throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland, The Institute is the flagship charity of the Worshipful Company of Salters, a City of London livery Company.

  • Aims

    The Salters' Institute aims to:

    • To enhance the education of students of Chemistry , particularly in secondary schools; and to encourage teachers to share best practice in innovative curricular development and teaching
    • to support UK Industry, by facilitating the supply of high quality Chemists and Chemical Engineers through its educational programmes and its awards for excellence for new graduates
    • To make Science, particularly Chemistry, more accessible generally and in particular to provide young people of pre-GCSE school age with hands-on experience of Chemistry
