Parity for Disability

Parity for Disability provides services for people with multiple disabilities in Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

Founded 1953

  • Mission statement

Parity for Disability exists because when people with multiple disabilities reach the age of 18, the services they received as children are dramatically reduced. Without the right support, meaningful social contact, learning, achieving and experiencing the world all become impossible.

The people who use Parity’s day services access all kinds of academic, social, living and recreational activities. They are included in the community, making social contact and building relationships. Most importantly, the charity’s trained, caring staff support each person one-to-one. The charity’s qualified, registered music therapists also provide music therapy both on-site and to other local organisations. Family members receive respite from giving care, as well as information and advice.

Profoundly disabled teens also face isolation, frustration and boredom during the Easter and summer holidays. When school is out, they want to do the same as all teens - getting around, meeting up with friends, trying new activities. At the Parity for Disability’s Teenagers’ Activity Scheme, teens are supported one-to-one by university students who share their young outlook, and each teen shapes the scheme to his or her liking, deciding what will happen each day.

Based in Farnborough, Hampshire, the charity originally fundraised for local causes. It opened its first day service 21 years ago in 1991. It now operates two services in Farnborough and in Camberley, Surrey and is set to expand.
