Did you know, 80% of all visual impairment is preventable or curable? Yet, a staggering 1. 1 billion people worldwide are disabled simply because they need glasses. Vision Aid Overseas is the only leading eye care charity in the UK that alleviates poverty across Africa by transforming access to sustainable eye care services and low-cost prescription glasses.

    Founded in 1985, Vision Aid Overseas has been helping some of the poorest people in the world to see clearly for over 30 years. Whether you are a teacher in Ghana, a seamstress in Zambia, or a school pupil in Ethiopia, poor eye sight can have a devastating impact on your life and livelihood.

    Our vision:

    No one lives in poverty because of poor eyesight and no one lives with poor eyesight because of poverty

    To enable people living in poverty to access eye care and glasses

    How we work:

    Working in partnership with government ministries and other NGOs, Vision Aid Overseas is helping to establish a sustainable and cost-effective solution to visual impairment across five African countries by helping to:

    -Establish Vision Centres where patients can receive a free eye test and be prescribed with low-cost prescription glasses

    Train local eye care workers to build capacity and capability in the countries where we work

    Implement eye care into existing locally run hospital outreach to bring optometry services to isolated and hard to reach communities so, that no one is left behind
