Roundabout's remit is to provide significant and ongoing educational, psychological and artistic benefit to disadvantaged people. We do this through providing a Dramatherapy service, involving weekly sessions facilitated by Dramatherapists who are qualified, CRB checked, experienced and fully supported by Roundabout's Project Directors.
Dramatherapy has two elements. The Dramatic explores the creative and spontaneous potential of the body and mind, through working with drama-related techniques. These include story-telling, improvisation, mime, role-play, enactment, dance, movement, rhythm, voice, song, music, percussion and props. The Therapeutic allows the psychological needs of the group to be identified and worked through in a safe and supportive environment and in a non-directive manner. The initial focus is on what each individual brings to the session.
Roundabout works with adults and children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional and behavioural problems, mental health issues, dementia, and people of all ages who are vulnerable because of abuse or neglect. Our outcomes include improved mental health, increased confidence and self-esteem, improved social and communication skills, and a better quality of life.
