Home-Start Stevenage

Home-Start is reliant on funding to continue to run its groups. We have not yet been able to secure funding for the coming financial year. We will also loose our co-ordinator later in the year without further funding.
Please help us to maintain our current level of support to children and their families by supporting us.

Home-Start recruit, train and support volunteers who in turn offer regular support, friendship and practical help to young families under stress in their own homes, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown and emphasising the pleasures of family life. The children we support live in Stevenage and are maninly under 5 years of age (older siblings may attend during school holidays). They are disadvantaged because their families are facing difficulties, this may be because families are isolated, children have special needs, ill health or challenging behaviour, or the parents have ill health. Disababilities, mental health issues, learning disibility or find life difficult due to domestic abuse, relationship, housing or financial difficulties they may be lone paretns or teenage parents with little other support. Often these families are socially excluded, isolated and lonely.
In addition to the home visiting we offer 3 groups a week, two parent groups which follow a rolling programme of activities which includes healthy eating, budegeting, parenting issues, housing and any other topices raised by the parents. The Family group involves staff, parents and their children playing together, to help parents develop positive relationships with their children.
