The Whiteley Homes Trust

The Whiteley Homes Trust, known as Whiteley Village is a registered charity (1103056) which is a purpose built retirement village located in 230-acres in Surrey (Walton-on-Thames) providing accommodation for nearly 500 elderly people of limited means.

The majority of Villagers are on housing or care benefit. They come from all walks of life, all types of business, the professions, shop owners and some expatriates who have returned to this country – they are solid, worthy people who have contributed to life. They are generally not previous employees of Whiteley’s department store, but historically there were some employees. There are limited homes for self-funders and their income helps support the Trust’s charitable purposes.

It is the largest single site of almshouses in the UK, and is exceptional in providing the whole spectrum of care for its residents in 262 Grade II listed alms cottages built in the Arts and Crafts style within a conservation area.

Established in 1907 by a £1,000,000 legacy from William Whiteley, London’s first department store, Whiteley’s of Bayswater.

Residents lead independent lives, the Village provides a continuous spectrum of care from independent living in retirement alms cottages, to extra-care (independent living but with constant support) through to residential and nursing care. With 21 clubs, a shop, Post Office, library, laundrette, hairdressers, pub/club, café, therapy pool, putting and bowling green, 6 hole golf course two churches and a Village Hall.
