  • Mission statement

The Somerset Youth Volunteering Network (SYVN) aims to support all young people in Somerset to be positively involved in volunteering, community action or active citizenship that benefits their communities and helps improve the environment. SYVN aims to ensure that all young people are given the opportunity to volunteer in a safe supportive environment, where their experience will be enjoyable, their skills, experience and confidence increased, and where their contribution is of value to the community. SYVN ensures that young people are empowered, fully involved in deciding what they do and in the running of the organisation they volunteer with, that young people's voluntary effort is fully recognised and appreciated, that they receive appropriate and responsive training, that best practice is fully networked and adopted throughout the sector and that staff are well trained. We work hard to ensure that young people from all sectors of the community are given the opportunity to volunteer. SYVN operates at a strategic level within Somerset and aims to ensure quality within youth volunteering. Our projects are innovative and are used as examples of good practice at national level. Our reach has recently been extended to include the development and management of a youth on-line peer to peer mentoring programme at different locations throughout England.
