  • Mission statement

    GNFC seeks to create a sense of family and belonging that offers opportunities for hurting people to take risks in a safe, secure and accepting space, where to fail is an opportunity to learn and to grow.

    We seek to empower the people we serve to take the first steps towards rebuilding their lives through a range of in-house support services and through working in partnership with local and regional statutory and voluntary agencies.

    Founded in 1994 as a response to needs presented through working with young people and famiies in a small church, the charity began at Charis House in the Derbyshire spa town of Buxton. We provide supported accommodation in comfortable furnished rooms for women and their children who are experiencing serious difficulties such as homelessness and/or domestic abuse and need a safe place where they can begin to address their difficulties. Others, facing problems of a more serious nature such as substance misuse or alcohol addictionmay need a higher level of intense support.

    Our interventions include:
    freedom2live Residential Structured Recovery Programme (CQC Registered);
    Domestic Abuse Refuge and tailored professional support;
    Parenting Support through Child Protection Proceedings/Safeguarding Children Support;
    Registered Day Nursery for resident and community based families;
    A wide range of courses and therapeutic group acitivities;
    Skills for Work Farm-based projects and social enterprise.
